Freelancer, small studio or large IT company in Ahmedabad: who should build your website?

All three can do good work. The difference is what happens when something goes wrong, when you want changes, and when the one person you rely on is unavailable.

Freelancer, studio or agency, and large IT company compared for a website build in Ahmedabad, with strengths and risks

Ahmedabad has every kind of option, from one-person freelancers to large IT companies. The right one depends on your project and your tolerance for risk, not on which has the biggest website.

We are a small studio, so we have an obvious interest. Read this as a comparison of trade-offs and judge us by the same questions.

Freelancer

Strengths: direct access to the person doing the work, flexibility, often a lower quote. Good for a small, well-defined job.

Watch for: a single point of failure. If they are ill, busy or move on, your project waits. Ask who else could maintain the code and whether it lives in a repository you control.

Small studio or agency

Strengths: a small team with design, development and review, a written process, and someone to answer if the lead is away. Good for business sites, shops and apps that need to keep growing.

Watch for: hourly or project costs that are higher than a freelancer's. Make sure the people you meet are the people who build.

Large IT company

Strengths: scale, formal contracts and compliance, and depth across many technologies. Suits large or regulated projects.

Watch for: layers between you and the developers, slower changes, and minimum project sizes that make small work awkward.

Questions that apply to all three

  • Who will build my project, and can I meet them?
  • Do I own the code, the hosting account and the domain from day one?
  • What is in the price, what is not, and what does a change cost?
  • What support do I get after launch, and what does it cost?
  • Can I see live work and speak to a past client?

Our web development and dedicated team pages explain how a small studio structures this.

Common questions

Is a freelancer cheaper than an agency?
Often the quote is lower, but compare what is included. Testing, project management, backups and support after launch may or may not be part of a freelancer's price.
When is a large IT company the right choice?
When you need formal compliance, a large team or long-term enterprise support, and you can accept slower decisions and more process.
What should I get in writing whoever I hire?
A scope with exclusions, a price, a timeline, who owns the code and accounts, and what support you get after launch.
